Scholarships

UH official gets library honor

Randy Hensley, public services division head for the University of Hawai'i-Manoa Libraries, was recently awarded the Association of College and Research Libraries Instruction Section's 2002 Miriam Dudley Instruction Librarian Award.

Hensley chairs the ACRL Effective Practices Committee and has been a faculty member for the ACRL Institute for Information Literacy Immersion Program since 1999. He has had a long affiliation with ACRL's Instruction Section, beginning in 1984 and culminating with his services as vice chairman/chairman-elect, chairman and past chairman from 1996 to 1999.

He was also part of a team that designed "Libraries, Scholarship and Technology," a course for freshmen about the nature of scholarly processes, personal and scholarly narrative and information literacy, which won the Instruction Section's 2001 Innovation in Instruction Award.

Scholarships handed out

The following students have received scholarships:

• Jennifer Light, $3,500 from the Honolulu Chapter of Executive Women International. Other recipients are Laura Quek of Hawaii Baptist Academy, Oscar Loui of McKinley High, Jaclyn Cadaoas of Aiea High, Nana Hasegawa of La Pietra Hawaii School for Girls, Joanna Ignacio of Maryknoll School and Katie Omura of St. Andrew's Priory.

• Spirit Award winners bound for Hawai'i Pacific University: Peter Abiva Jr. of McKinley High; Maria Cariaga of Farrington High School; Florencio Castillo, Damien Memorial High; Cheryl Cateil, Waianae High; Angela Dela Cruz, Kahuku High; Franklin Du Pont, Kamehameha Schools; Shelby Greer, Aiea High; Natalie Holomalia, Kaiser High; Jacqueline Jiminez, Castle High; Jessie Lee, Castle High; Jessica Margeson, Kailua Christian Academy; Stacey Musick, Kahuku High; Jasmine Orlando, St. Francis School; Ervin Pasalo, King Kekaulike High; Joey Sakaue, Aiea High; Aaron Schweitzer, Kalaheo High; Ariane White, Kahuku High; Yuk Kwun Yee, McKinley High.

• Honda Scholarship for International Study recipients: Elena Indjieva-Nielson, Maui Community College; Bryce Domingo and Lyle Tetsuo, Kapi'olani Community College; Robin Fletcher, Dexter Nakamoto and Cary Yokoo, Leeward Community College.

• Sen. Donna Mercado Kim has announced her annual awards, to Robyn Chung and Tyffiny-Elizabeth Keliiaa-Fernandez, 'Aiea High; Rosalie Inouye, Theresa Tomacder, Nikki Katsutani, 'Aiea Intermediate; Arlene Ponce and Genna Sagaysay, Farrington High; Jessica Kotomori and Alice Ra, Moanalua High.

• Aldrich Ricalde of 'Ewa Beach is a recipient of a $1,500 scholarship awarded at Pearl Harbor as part of the Scholarships for Military Children Program. He plans to attend UH-Manoa.

• Some Colorado State University students have received scholarships: Gloria Matsushita, a sophomore majoring in biological science and an Aiea High graduate, has received the Vet-Start Scholarship and is on the College of Natural Science's dean's list.

Shavena Cotellesse, sophomore, a history and anthropology major, and Pamela Muneto, a graduate student and occupational therapy major, have received Robinson McWayne Memorial Scholarships.
