A Hawai'i company that disinfects water through solar technology has signed memorandums of understanding to introduce its products in the Philippines.
The relationships with Philippine representatives grew out of meetings last week at Hawai'i's Sister Summit 2002, according to Terry Hart, international marketing director with Safe Water Systems LLC, based at the Manoa Innovation Center.
The event was the first Hawai'i conference to explore sister-city and sister-county relationships for economic-development purposes, according to officials with the Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism, the state agency that sponsored the event.
About 200 overseas delegates were expected at the Sister Summit, held July 8 and 9 at the Hawai'i Convention Center, with side trips to various O'ahu and Neighbor Island businesses later in the week.
Under the memorandums of understanding, Ariel DeGuzman will represent Safe Water Systems in Pangasinan province and Jose "Tito" Ma Gastardo will represent the company in the Central Visayas region, Hart said.
Their work will include introducing Solar Water Pasteurizers to the areas, looking for financial sources and making project proposals, Hart said.
Safe Water Systems' technology is already operating in 48 countries, Hart said.
