• Supervision of disaster and emergency services will be among responsibilities of CASSANDRA ELY as the new chief operating officer of the Hawai'i chapter of the American Red Cross.

Ely, who will also oversee the Neighbor Island offices, was previously field service manager for the Pacific islands and executive director of the Northern Mariana Islands chapter in Saipan.

ENRIQUE "RICK" ORTIZ, former program director and director of operations for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Maui, was named executive director of the Maui County office of the Red Cross.

KEN KOIKE has been elected to his second term as president of the Mid-Pacific Country Club board of directors. He is a consultant and retired executive with Xerox Corp. Other board officers are RODNEY PARK, first vice president; JOHN KNOREK, second vice president; ROY NISHIMOTO, secretary; ALAN KOBAYASHI, treasurer; and RON KOZA, assistant treasurer. Directors include NEAL KANDA, MURRAY TOWILL and VINCENT YIM.

• State Attorney General Earl Anzai has recognized MARIE LADERTA, supervising deputy attorney general assigned to the Tort Litigation Division, as his department's outstanding manager. As part of the State's Incentive and Service Awards Program, Laderta and other departments' managers of the year will be honored in October at the Hawai'i Capitol.

• Architect MICHAEL M.S. CHUN has been elected chairman of the board of directors for the architecture, design, planning and consulting firm Wimberly Allison Tong & Goo. As senior vice president, Chun will remain actively involved with architectural projects and assume additional responsibilities directing business operations. He succeeds DONALD W.Y. GOO, who remains active in the firm as senior vice president. Chun has been on the board since 1987 and served as vice chairman the past two years. He was the project director for the Disney Grand Floridian Resort and Spa and is working on projects in California, Florida, Egypt, Singapore, Mexico and Ireland.

MARK FUKUHARA has been named chief executive officer of the Hawai'i Employer-Union Health Benefits Trust Fund, which, beginning July 1, 2003, will replace the Public Employees Health Fund in providing health benefits for some 90,000 active and retired state and county employees. Fukuhara, chosen after a nationwide recruitment effort, was previously senior vice president and chief operating officer with Hawai'i Dental Service and most recently vice president and chief operating officer with Royal Insurance Agency. He also held management positions with kahuku Hospital, the Hawai'i Medical Service Association, Straub Clinic and Hospital, and Arthur Young & Co.

GORDON R. HILTON has been named senior vice president and chief information officer for the Hawai'i Medical Service Association. Aside from information technology, Hilton's career has included healthcare manufacturing and retailing and high technology.

ROMEO PAET has been promoted from executive sous chef to executive chef at the 521-room Outrigger Wailea Resort on Maui. He will oversee the kitchens for the resort's Hula Moons Restaurant, Kumu Bar and Grill, Wailele Snack Bar, in-room dining and catering. Paet was previously with the Maui Surf Hotel and Maui Inter-Continental Hotel.

MICHAEL BAUGHN, founder of Advanced Hearing Care, has teamed up with Costco and will manage hearing aid operations at the Iwilei store.
