Tube Notes
Tonight's Must-See
"P.O.V.: Refrigerator Mothers," 10 p.m., PBS. This documentary reminds us that expert advice isn't always right. Autism is a disorder that leaves children in mental isolation. We know now its roots are neurological. But in the 1950s, one of the first child-development specialists said it was caused by mothers who failed to make emotional connections. This powerful film interviews parents of autistic children and views the devastating effect when a mother tries to cope with a problem she's told she caused.
Of Note
"According to Jim," 7 and 7:30 p.m., ABC. Both reruns revolve around Jim's passion for the Chicago Bears. The second one gets way too silly when his wife's cat dies on game day.
