The people arrested will be charged with blocking the Kalia Road exit and entrance to the hotel, a petty misdemeanor, police said.

There were no incidents during the arrests, police said.

Police estimated more than 1,000 people showed up to picket at the hotel, the largest number during picketing this month.

The picketing is the latest aimed at putting the pressure on in the ongoing talks with management. The picketing started after union officials said they canceled the labor group's contract extensions covering 2,500 workers at the Sheraton hotels on June 28, and 1,500 workers at the Hilton Hawaiian Village on July 3, an activity prohibited under the contracts.

Police Maj. Tom Nitta said he could not recall any other arrests of picketing workers in a labor dispute in Waikiki.

Among those arrested was union official Eric Gill.
