The 72-year-old restaurateur and developer, who was the Republican candidate for governor in 1982 and 1986, will face Lt. Gov. Mazie Hirono and state Rep. Ed Case, D-23rd (Manoa), in the Democratic primary.
D.G. "Andy" Anderson will face Ed Case and Mazie Hirono in the primary election.
"I believe the state is in a serious condition," Anderson said. "I believe we need a responsible businessman, one with some legislative background and experience and I believe I have those qualifications."
Anderson said he wouldn't have filed for the office if he didn't think he could win.
After eight months of talking to Democrats, "I believe I'm being accepted," he said.
Anderson said his priority is to diversify the economy to provide more jobs and a new source of money for public education a plan he'll disclose at a news conference tomorrow.
