10,200 lose power for hour

A power failure in Wai'anae left more than 10,200 Hawaiian Electric customers without power for about an hour yesterday morning, said HECO spokeswoman Lynne Unemori.

The problem began around 10:48 a.m. when a power line went down on Lualualei Naval Road in Nanakuli, Unemori said.

Fire Department spokes-man Capt. Richard Soo said the downed line ignited a small brushfire at 87-2020 Farrington Highway about 10:55 a.m. The fire was extinguished by the time crews arrived, Soo said.

HECO maintenance crews arrived at the scene about 11:17 a.m. and power was restored by 12:04 p.m. Firefighters remained at the scene until 12:10 p.m.
