Wailuku road project to begin
WAILUKU, Maui A $2 million road improvement project is expected to start this month on busy Kanaloa Avenue in Wailuku.
The project, 80 percent of which is being financed by the federal government, includes adding left-turn lanes at intersections, parking lanes, drainage and sidewalk improvements, repaving Kanaloa Avenue from Kahului Beach Road to Ka'ahumanu Avenue and installing four raised crosswalks.
Diversified Machinery of Wailuku was awarded the contract for the job.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area until the work is completed in January.
'CompuSwap' on Saturday
WAILUKU, Maui The fourth "CompuSwap" will be held 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the War Memorial Gym in Wailuku.
The computer swap meet allows individuals and businesses to sell, give away or donate working computers or auxiliary equipment. Broken or obsolete equipment will be accepted for recycling and recovery of lead, gold and other metals.
Because obsolete or broken equipment must be shipped to an electronics recycler, anyone planning to bring equipment should register ahead of time so shipping capacity can be estimated. Computers cannot go in the landfill.
"CompuSwap" is sponsored by the county Department of Public Works and Waste Management and managed by the Community Work Day Program, which is seeking volunteers with computer knowledge.
To volunteer or register to bring equipment for recycling, call (808) 877-2524 or e-mail cwdkhb@pixi.com.
