Police Beat

Crash shuts H-2 southbound lanes

A 1999 Ford Explorer overturned on the H-2 Freeway today, closing the H-2 southbound lanes for about 40 minutes. The 44-year-old driver was hospitalized in stable condition.

The driver, a woman from Wahiawa, was sent to Wahiawa General Hospital. No other vehicles were involved.

The woman was driving on H-2 in the left lane toward Honolulu when the vehicle flipped a half-mile before the Mililani off ramp around 7:02 a.m., said Honolulu Fire Department spokesman Capt. Kenison Tejada. Police said H-2 southbound traffic was rerouted to Kamehameha Highway, which caused a back up. H-2 reopened at 7:50 a.m., police said.

Blaze destroys old convalescent home

Firefighters battled a blaze at the former Crawford's Convalescent Home in Hale'iwa today. No one was injured.

Three engines, two ladders and about 30 firefighters responded to the 12:41 a.m. alarm at the three-story abandoned building at 58-130 Kamehameha Highway, Honolulu Fire Department spokesman Capt. Richard Soo said.

Soo said the structure was burned to the ground.

Firefighters had the blaze under control by 2:35 a.m., and it was extinguished at 4:06 a.m.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Police said they have no suspects and the cause of the boy's injuries is under investigation.

Man accused of attempted murder

Kona police arrested a 27-year-old Captain Cook man on suspicion of attempted murder and other offenses stemming from a domestic dispute early Monday in which he allegedly shot at his girlfriend as she drove away in a car.

The suspect surrendered to police at the Kealakehe station Tuesday.

He was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, first-degree reckless endangering, terroristic threatening, abuse of a family or household member, having an illegal place to keep a firearm, prohibited ownership of a firearm, having no permit to acquire a firearm, unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle, third-degree theft and second-degree criminal property damage.

He allegedly got into an argument with his girlfriend about 4:15 a.m. Monday in the parking lot of the Coconut Grove on Ali'i Drive.

The woman, who was not hurt, drove to the Kealakehe station.
