Man breaches security at airport
A 27-year-old civilian crewman from the USNS Yukon was arrested today after he temporarily breached security at the Honolulu International Airport.
The suspect was caught about 2:30 a.m. after he climbed over the United Airlines cargo fence and then an airport security fence, which was topped with barbed wire, said Marilyn Kali, spokeswoman for the state Department of Transportation.
Airport security guards detained the man and called sheriff's deputies. Misdemeanor charges are likely, said John Borges, sheriff's administrator. Borges said the man appeared to be intoxicated and remains in sheriff's custody.
The Yukon is an oiler that was in town for the RIMPAC 2002 military exercises, which conclude Monday.
