Kona man accused of shooting at girlfriend

KEALAKEHE, Hawai'i A 27-year-old man is due to be arraigned today in Kona District Court after being charged with attempted murder and other offenses for allegedly firing a gun at his girlfriend after an argument.
Duane Grace of Captain Cook is being held at the Kona police cellblock in lieu of $95,500 bail. He is charged with attempted murder, first-degree reckless endangering, terroristic threatening, abuse of a household member, unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle, third-degree theft, second-degree criminal property damage and five gun-related offenses.
Police said the incident happened at 4:15 a.m. Monday in the rear parking lot of the Coconut Grove on Ali'i Drive. Grace is accused of shooting at the woman, whose name was not released, as she was driving away following an argument. The woman drove to the Kealakehe police station to report the shooting. Using a search warrant, police recovered the barrel of a sawed-off .22-caliber rifle at the suspect's home, and later found the rest of the weapon.
