Bishop Ryokan Ara of the Tendai Mission in Hawai'i and the Rev. Eshin Matsumoto of the Kannonji temple in Palolo are helping to plan and will be in attendance for an international interfaith prayer service for world peace at the Tendai sect's main temple in Japan next month.

Matsumoto will bring a message from the Hawaii Association of International Buddhists to the summit, which takes place Aug. 3-4 at the temple on Mount Hiei and includes the prayer service. It's to be held on the 15th anniversary of an earlier summit, and the theme this year is "Dialogue with the Muslims."
