A "roast" of outgoing University of Hawai'i athletic director Hugh Yoshida last night raised approximately $100,000 for athletic scholarships at the school, a UH spokesman said.

Proceeds from the event at the Stan Sheriff Center, attended by more than 700, will establish the Hugh and Patti Yoshida Endowed Scholarship.

The Yoshidas and Edison Miyawaki, the event's chairman, presented UH President Evan Dobelle with a check last night.

"We both wanted to give something to the university and the students to show how grateful we are for the amazing experience we've had these past nine years," Hugh Yoshida said.

Yoshida, 62, is scheduled to leave in December after his contract expires, ending nearly 12 years at UH, the last nine as athletic director of the 19-sport, $16 million Division I-A program. Yoshida announced his retirement in February.
