Firefighters this evening were battling a brush fire above Wai'anae that could be seen by dozens of residents but was not threatening any homes, a fire spokesman said.
Nine fire companies were dispatched to the fire that was reported at 8:21 p.m. at 85-1570 Wai'anae Valley Road, near Angel's Junkyard, said Honolulu Fire Department spokesman Capt. Richard Soo.
The brush fire was at the end of Wai'anae Valley Road.
"It's an area that's burned before," Soo said. "Usually that area burns 'up' the mountain."
Soo said no evacuations were ordered as of 10 p.m. tonight, but added "you can see flames from the Wai'anae area if you live in there."
