WHEE, THE PEOPLE: Jazzman Herbie Mann, the flutist in town for the Hawai'i International Jazz Festival, is quite a passionate foodie, it turns out. He arrived here with a magazine story on Chef Mavro, proceeded to check out George Mavrothalassitis's restaurant, and told Mavro his new menu made him "think of Debussy and Miles Davis." That's quite a company to be in. ...
Speaking of good company: Yvonne Elliman, the Hawai'i singer who starred in "Jesus Christ Superstar" on Broadway and in the movies, is clustered among stars of previous Andrew Lloyd Webber vehicles in the just-out "Andrew Lloyd Webber: Gold" CD, on which Elliman performs her signature "I Don't Know How to Love Him." Obvious hits by Michael Crawford, Sarah Brightman, Betty Buckley, Donnie Osmond, Madonna and even Barbra Streisand are assembled; a not-so-obvious inclusion is "No Matter What," a Lloyd Webber collaboration with Meat Loaf's Jim Steinman, performed by Boyzone, from Lloyd Webber's least-performed "Whistle Down the Road." ...
ITEMIZATIONS: Mark Steines of "Entertainment Tonight" was one of the broadcast journalists in town for Universal's "Blue Crush" sessions at the J.W. Marriott Ihilani resort earlier this week. Besides hotel talks with the stars, he was to do an in-the-water surfing bit. Producer Bonnie Tiegel stayed on land. ...
Tonight is Russian Night at The Actors Group's "Anna" production at the Yellow Brick Studio. Members of the Russian community will watch Po'okela winner Frankie Enos as poet Anna Akhmatova, on a full set of authentic pieces donated by honorary Russian consul Natasha Owen. ...

Jesse Gamiao, the Krush member who suffered a heart attack, is recuperating at home. When he was at Queen's, his wife Cindy talked about dirty car tires, and how Armoral Extreme works, with visitors Yemun and Gloria Chung. When Cindy returned to the car, she had clean tires because Chung sprayed the wheels. As his pals know, he also always has Windex around (shades of the father figure in "My Big Fat Greek Wedding"), but had run out; otherwise, Cindy would've had clean windows, too. ...
NAMES 'N' PLACES: Melveen Leed and Nohelani Cypriano are off to Japan for gigs. Leed celebrated her birthday at Keo's in Waikiki before moving on to Sashimi Land. ...
Maybe they'll see Pauline Wilson, who jammed with the Miles Jackson Band at Brew Moon following last week's Hawai'i International Jazz Festival. Wilson is off to Japan to promote her "Tribute" CD, getting an assist from former Seawind bandmate Larry Williams (just off an Al Jarreau tour). ...
The Brothers Cazimero have been attracting some "name" peers in recent gigs. When they did the Moonlight Mele at the Bishop Museum, they invited The Makaha Sons (Louis "Moon" Kauakahi, Jerome Koko, John Koko) on stage. Ditto, Ho'okena's Manu Boyd. When Robert Cazimero did his solo piano stint at Chai's Island Bistro, Nina Keali'iwahamana was in the audience. ...
Wade Cambern, Friday entertainer at Roy's in Hawai'i Kai, had a couple of notables tuning in recently: Indiana Pacers' Reggie Miller and "Baywatch Hawai'i's" Stacy Kamano. ...
