About 250 former employees of the Aston Waikiki Beach Hotel who lost their jobs when the hotel went into foreclosure last year are entitled to severance and vacation pay-out, a union official said.
On July 15, a circuit court judge approved the distribution of severance and vacation pay-out for the 10 months before the hotel was closed in June 2001, said Matt Yamamoto, field representative of the Local 142 of the International Longshore and Warehouse Union.
Individual workers' pay-outs vary according to vacation levels and pay rates, and the total amount to be distributed is approximately $300,000, Yamamoto said. The ILWU will not deduct any union dues from the pay-out, he said.
The full severance and vacation pay-out from Otaka Inc., the former Japanese owner of the hotel, is being sought in a separate lawsuit, the process of which is ongoing, Yamamoto said.
