The wheels are churning

It began as a way to get young 'Ewa skateboarders together to showcase their talent in a safe, drug-free environment. Each year, it drew 65 or 70 skaters to competitions. Now in its third year, Skatejam III is still a skater's paradise, but now there's also a Family Fun Fair element, with food booths, crafts and extreme inflatable rides. And it's a benefit, sponsored by Anuenue Christian Church, Hope Metro and other community groups, for Campbell High School's Project Graduation and the 'Ewa Beach community's needy families. Hours are 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday at 'Ewa Beach Community Park. Admission is free. 689-4077.
