Church musicians to gather in Hawai'i

The Association of Lutheran Church Musicians will hold a regional conference Aug. 4-7 at the Lutheran Church of Honolulu.
Keynote speakers are Dr. Samuel Torvend, a theologian from Pacific Lutheran University, and Mark Glaeser, who oversees a music program of more than 25 choirs and ensembles at Christ Lutheran Church in Charlotte, N.C. Torvend and Glaeser each will present three lectures on "The Calling of a Lutheran Musician."
Workshops on choral repertoire and the musician/pastor team also will take place. Local presenter Susan McCreary Duprey will discuss "Ethnic Choral Traditions in Hawai'i"; Carl Crosier will talk about "Worship as a 'Moving' Experience"; and Arthur Harvey will discuss "Worship from a Neuro-Musicological Perspective."
A free public concert of Bach Cantata 93 and Dietrich Buxtehude's "Magnificat" for choir, orchestra and soloists, will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 7 at the church. Soloists are Georgine Stark and Vicki Gorman, sopranos; Carl Crosier, alto; Joseph Z. Pettit, tenor; and Timothy Carney, bass.
