Deadline near for pet pictures for calendar
July 31 is the deadline to submit photos of local pets to the Hawaiian Humane Society for its 2003 calendar. Hawai'i pet owners are invited to enter their best animal photos.
Fourteen photographs will be featured as full-page Pets of the Month and on the cover. All photos received will be included in full-color collages.
How to get an entry form:
- At the Hawaiian Humane Society on Old Wai'alae Road or by calling 946-2187, ext. 370 and asking to have a form mailed to you.
- On the Web, go to www.hawaiianhumane.org, then click on News & Events, Calendar of Events and 2003 Calendar.
- Write out your name, address, phone, and your pet's name, and include a check to Hawaiian Humane Society, ($15 for each photo).
Photo Guidelines:
- All photos must be color photo prints in a horizontal layout, no larger than 6 inches by 4 inches
- The photos must contain only animals (no people).
- If a digital image, photos must follow specifications above and be printed on photo-quality paper in "best" mode.

- All entries must be received at the humane society by July 31, 2002.
- Must include $15 entry fee for each photo. The photo will not not be returned.
- Entries not acceptable: Polaroid photos, disks, e-mail or computer-generated photos printed on plain paper.
- There is no limit to the number of entries that may be submitted.
A panel of professionals will judge the photos.
The 2003 "Pets in Paradise" calendar will be for sale at the Hawaiian Humane Society in early November.
The entry fees support the work of the humane society in caring for O'ahu's neglected, homeless and lost animals.

Just 6 months old, this slender brown pup needs a buddy to exercise with her. Running, jumping, hiking Chloe can do it all. She is enrolled in the Humane Society's animal behavior program and is learning good manners. Now she needs a home where she'll get plenty of attention.

This 3-month-old female guinea pig is called Rainbow but she could have another name. She was found recently and remains unclaimed at the Humane Society. If you have lost this tri-color guinea pig, please visit the shelter to claim her.
Adoptions, lost-animal retrieval and McInerny Dog Park are open noon to 8 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekends and holidays at 2700 Wai'alae Ave. The facility is open 24 hours a day for incoming animals and for emergency rescues.
