Motorcyclist killed in collision on Big Island

A 46-year-old man was killed yesterday after his motorcycle collided with a car at the intersection of Waianuenue Avenue and Ululani Street in Hilo.

Hilo police said Tompkins Williams Sr. of Hilo was driving his motorcycle when he collided with a 1994 Mercury four-door sedan driven by 64-year-old John Iswan. The call about the accident came at 12:31 p.m.

Williams was taken to the Hilo Medical Center, were he was pronounced dead at 1:15 p.m. Iswan also was taken to the Hilo hospital, where he was treated for his injuries.

Police are investigating and an autopsy has been ordered.

Williams' death was the 16th traffic fatality on the Big Island this year, compared with 18 at the same time last year.
