TONIGHT'S MUST SEE

• "The Hamptons," 8 p.m., ABC. The first half of Barbara Kopple's superb documentary aired Sunday. We met young New Yorkers who spent last summer in the Hamptons as well as the working people of the area. Jacqueline Lipson, a bright and beautiful lawyer, was determined to find someone to marry by 30. Meanwhile, Nancy Atlas was a waitress by day and a star singer by night. We also got glimpses of the famous — Billy Joel, Russell Simmons and Christie Brinkley, among others. Controversy boiled when publicist Lizzie Grubman was accused of backing her Mercedes into 16 people. Few of these stories will be wrapped up tonight. (Grubman, for instance, is still in court.) Still, "The Hamptons" is filled with fascinating little details.

OF NOTE

"Intimate Portrait," 7 p.m., Lifetime. A look at Amy Grant, Christian superstar musician, now married to country star Vince Gill.

"Biography," 9 p.m., A&E. We revisit "The Mary Tyler Moore Show," including its close calls: The show did so badly with a test audience that it was, briefly, scheduled to air after "Hee Haw."

"The Pet Psychic" premiere, 9 p.m., Animal Planet. Sonya Friedman claims she communicates with animals. Now, she has her own cable series.

"Spy TV," 8:30 p.m., NBC. A new season starts with hidden-camera stunts. In one, a woman sees her boyfriend challenging Hell's Angels at a biker bar.

"Crossing Jordan," 9 p.m., NBC. Here's a third chance to see the excellent debut episode. We see Jordan as a headstrong medical examiner who returns to Boston to revive her crumbling career.
