Iolani track star heading for University of Washington

Advertiser Staff

Recent Iolani School graduate Lauran Dignam, who won five gold medals at last month's state track and field championships, plans to sign a national letter of intent to run for the University of Washington.

Dignam will sign the letter tomorrow at Iolani, according to school spokesperson Cathy Chong.

At the state meet on May 11, Dignam said she was weighing offers from Cal State Fullerton, Oregon and Colorado State. Dignam, who could not be reached for comment, apparently decided on Washington this past weekend.

Dignam's spectacular performances at the Interscholastic League of Honolulu and Island Movers State Championship meets helped the Raiders win girls team titles for the first time.

In each meet, she won the 100-, 200- and 400-meter dashes and anchored Iolani's winning 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams. She set ILH meet records in the 100, 200 and 400 with times of 12.20, 25.06 and 56.34 seconds, respectively.

At the state meet, Dignam set a record in the 200 with a time of 25.04.

Dignam also ran for Iolani's state championship cross country team and was the ILH soccer Player of the Year, but she said she likely will concentrate on track in college.
