Second teen charged in killings of two men

Associated Press

A second teen-ager was charged with murder today in the slayings of two young men whose bodies were found last week, Big Island police said.

Kyle Zengy Thurston Hill, 19, was charged with one count of first-degree murder, two counts of second-degree murder and a firearms charge on Tuesday. He is being held without bail.

John McGovern, 18, was charged with the slayings on Sunday after confessing to killing the two men at their home in early May and then dumping their bodies in a vacant lot in the Fern Acres subdivision of Puna.

A report filed in Hilo District Court Monday said McGovern freely admitted to the killings Saturday after his arrest in Kailua-Kona. He also showed the location of the bodies to another person, police said.

According to the affidavit, McGovern admitted to shooting Cassidy Toole, 20, in the head and to shooting his roommate Wesley Alan Matheson, 20, "as he lay on the ground."

McGovern was charged Sunday with first-degree murder, two counts of second-degree murder, unauthorized control of a motor vehicle, a firearms violation and promotion of a detrimental drug. He was arraigned on the charges in District Court on yesterday and is also being held without bail.

A preliminary hearing was scheduled for June 28.

The first-degree murder charge is for allegedly killing two people during a single episode.
