Hat's all, folks

A 1940s pheasant-feather and brown-ribbon hat, a sugar-cane hat, a black sailor's hat made of 'iwa 'iwa, or maidenhair fern, and horsehair, lei crafted from feathers and sea snail shells — these are just a few of the vintage treasures in a collection called "The Hat Exhibit" at Maui Historical Society's Bailey House Museum.

The items were donated to the museum by kama'aina families such as the Baldwins, Smythes, Weights and Feiteiras.

The display extends Mondays through Saturdays until Aug. 31 in the museum gallery. Admission $5 adults, $4 seniors, $1 for children 7 to 12, free for children under 6. Information: Roslyn Lightfoot at (808) 244-3326, or baileyh@aloha.net.
