Man, 43, charged in cousin's shooting

Police yesterday charged a 43-year-old man in connection with a shooting that left his 27-year-old cousin in critical condition Sunday in Pearl City.

Hal Feliciano Jr. was charged with second-degree attempted murder and his bail was set at $100,000, police said.

The 11:48 a.m. shooting happened at 1840 Komo Mai Drive fronting a preschool-through-sixth-grade private school, and occurred just as parishioners of the Leeward Community Church next door to the school were leaving Sunday service.

The 27-year-old man was taken to The Queen's Medical Center with a gunshot wound to his left eye.

Police said the victim was driving a white pickup on Komo Mai Drive heading toward Pacific Palisades when he pulled over to talk to the suspect, who was on foot. Witnesses told police that the man fired several times at the driver, with one of the bullets hitting him in the eye. The victim tried to drive off, but crashed his vehicle into some bushes 100 feet away on the side of the road, police said.

Ala Wai apartment fire investigated

Fire investigators last night were looking into the cause of an Ala Wai fire that damaged a fourth-floor apartment.

The blaze was reported at 8:13 p.m. at the Ala Wai Hale apartments in Waikiki. No one was home when firefighters arrived, so they had to break into the apartment, said Capt. Kenison Tejada of the Fire Department.

The fire, confined to a table in the living room and clothing, was quickly extinguished, Tejada said. A damage estimate was pending, but Tejada said the one-bedroom apartment suffered heavy smoke damage.

Two cats were in the apartment but escaped injury, Tejada said.

19-year-old critical after cycle accident

A 19-year-old man was in critical condition last night at The Queen's Medical Center after he was injured in a motorcycle collision in Palolo.

The collision happened at about 4:30 p.m. at the intersection of 9th Avenue and Hardesty Street. Police said the man was riding his motorcycle mauka-bound on 9th Avenue when he collided with a car that was turning left from Hardesty onto 9th Avenue.

Kona police revive disappearance case

Kona detectives have renewed a request for information about the 1998 disappearance of 36-year-old Michele Gloria Adam, a case that later was classified as a murder investigation.

Adam was reported missing June 17, 1998, from her home in Miloli'i Beach Lots in South Kona.

Her husband, Richard Louis Adam, reported her missing and told police he last saw her as she left home June 13, 1998, driving her 1997 Toyota Celica. He said that two days later, he found the car parked at the couple's second home in the Hawaiian Ocean View Estates subdivision in Ka'u.

Police searched for her remains near both homes in January 1999.

Her husband now lives in Lancaster, N.H.

Michelle Adam was described as being 5 feet 1, 85 pounds with a slim build, long straight brown hair and brown eyes.

Anyone with information about her disappearance is asked to call police in Kona, (808) 326-4646, or Hilo, (808) 935-3311. Anonymous tips can go to Crime Stoppers, (808) 322-8181 in Kona or (808) 961-8300 in Hilo.
