Fijian filmmaker Vilsoni Hereniko will show scenes from his coming dramatic feature "Fire In The Womb" tonight and tomorrow night at the University of Hawai'i-Manoa.
Scheduled for release next January and undergoing editing here, "Fire In The Womb" is the first feature-length film directed by an indigenous Fijian. Hereniko, also the film's writer, teaches Pacific islands literature, theatre and film at UH-Manoa.
"Fire In The Womb" was shot on the Fijian island of Rotuma last summer and stars Rena Owen ("Once Were Warriors") and a mostly Rotuman cast.
Along with "Womb" executive producer and former Hawai'i International Film Festival founding director Jeanette Paulson Hereniko, the director will lead a discussion on the making of the film at 7 tonight and tomorrow night in Krauss Hall, Room 12.
Admission is free. Information: 956-8866.
