NORTH SHORE
At least 3 bid on Waimea park
Yesterday was the deadline for vendors interested in taking over the permanent operation of Waimea Falls Park to submit formal bid proposals to the city.
At least three vendors Ray Greene, who heads Waimea Management LLC, which manages the park on a month to month basis, Diane King, with the National Audubon Society, and Lois Sismar, with Volume Services, Inc. a property management company said their organizations had turned in proposals.
City spokeswoman Carol Costa said the city could not comment on the content of any proposals or how many proposals were received.
The city intends to purchase the park through condemnation for $5.1 million. Costa said the selection process could last several months.

'Weed & Seed' rally Saturday
Sign wavers will be out in force Saturday morning at Nanakuli Beach Park to rally support for an upcoming community "Weed and Seed" meeting.
The meeting is part of the process to establish the crime-fighting program in the area. The meeting's purpose is to inform the public about community involvement in drug and crime prevention, fighting abuse in local homes and responsibility for protecting area children.
The meeting begins at 6 p.m. next Thursday at the Wai'anae District Park Multi Purpose Room.

Waiahole water briefing June 22
Learn about the history of Waiahole Stream and the importance of restoring water to it at an excursion along the waterway from 9 a.m. to noon June 22 beginning at Waiahole Poi Factory.
Long-time community member Kaipo Faris will lead the group and discuss the community's effort to restore the health and water quality of the stream, including by reintroducing the native mollusk, hihiwai, to the stream.
Wear walking shoes and bring a hat, sunscreen and bug repellent.

HONOLULU
Child ID session at Honolulu Ford
To help reduce the number of missing children each year, Honolulu Ford will will be host to a free child identification event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 15 at 711 Ala Moana.
Parents can bring their children to Honolulu Ford for the "Commitment to Kids" safety identification kits. A photograph will be taken of each child, and instructions will be provided for parents to complete their child's physical description information.
A completed identification kit can expedite the return of a missing child.
