Tonight's Must-See

"Stargate SG-1" (6 and 8 p.m.) and "Farscape" (7 and 9 p.m.) season premieres, Sci Fi Channel. It's the sixth year for the sturdy "Stargate," the fourth for the sometimes-brilliant "Farscape." In "Stargate SG-1," Richard Dean Anderson stars, backed by Amanda Tapping, Christopher Judge and, beginning this year, former teen star Corin Nemec. Tonight's episode has someone transforming Stargate into a doomsday device. "Farscape" is the stylish series from the Henson company. Ben Browder plays the ordinary Earthling pilot who finds himself transported to a distant universe. When last seen our hero was on a crippled ship floating helplessly in space. Now we meet series newcomer Raelee Hill; she smashes into his ship and warns that mercenaries are next.

"Miss Hawaii Scholarship Pageant," 7:30 p.m., KFVE. Thirteen women will compete for the opportunity to represent our state in this fall's Miss America Pageant in Atlantic City. There's also about $100,000 in cash scholarships and tuition grants up for grabs in the 55th annual event. Contestants compete in swimsuit, evening wear, talent and personal interview segments. Broadcast live from the Hilton Hawaiian Village.

Of Note

"My Voyage to Italy," 2 p.m., Turner Classic Movies. Director Martin Scorsese visited his ancestral homeland and made this black-and-white documentary about Italian cinema. On future Fridays he'll host a series of classic Italian movies.

"Stargate" (1994), 3:30 p.m., Sci Fi Channel. Here's the movie that led to the series. Kurt Russell and James Spader star with Jaye Davidson of "The Crying Game" as the villain.

"Kim Possible," 6:30, 7 and 7:30 p.m., Disney Channel. Here's the premiere of a fast-paced cartoon about a teen girl who doubles as a James Bond-type hero. Christy Carlson Romano ("Even Stevens") provides Kim's voice.

Basketball, 7 p.m., NBC. The NBA playoff finals continue.

"The Pelican Brief" (1993), 8 p.m., TNT. This John Grisham story about a law student who guesses correctly about a national plot is far-fetched, but the movie works because it has a great cast led by Julia Roberts and Denzel Washington.
