Web site asks fee for report on doctors

Advertiser Staff

Internet users seeking to get full reports on Hawai'i physicians who have been disciplined by the Hawai'i Board of Medical Examiners are asked to pay for the information on the new Web site www.questionabledoctors.org.

The names are part of a national report released this week by Ralph Nader's consumer advocate and watchdog group Public Citizen. The report was the subject of a Page One story in Wednesday's Advertiser.

While the list is available after logging in with your name and e-mail address, access to full reports on 10 doctors is available only by paying $10.

There is also a book available for $20 (plus $5 in shipping costs) on California and Hawai'i doctors who have been disciplined.

The site notes that users can view and print detailed disciplinary reports on no more than 10 physicians within a three-month period.

The list includes 98 doctors who have been disciplined since 1992 for offenses that include incompetence, misprescribing drugs, sexual misconduct, criminal convictions, ethical lapses and other offenses.
