St. Mary's leads UH by one in nationals

The University of Hawai'i coed sailing team is in second place, one point behind leader St. Mary's College (Md.) entering today's final day of the Intercollegiate Sailing Association/Gill North American Dinghy Championships at Ke'ehi Lagoon.
St. Mary's has 156 points, followed by UH (157) and Harvard (158).
UH skipper Bryan Lake and crew Jennifer Warnock had 61 points to lead A division, while skippers Molly O'Bryan and Joey Pasqualli and crew Sarah Hitchcock and Lindsay Peters were in sixth in B division with 96 points.
Teams in each division will sail four more races today in the 18-team championship, starting at 9:45 a.m.
SWIMMING
State championships: Between tonight and Monday, 611 swimmers aged 8 to 18 years, will compete in 174 events in the Hawaiian Swimming Age-Group Long Course Championships at Kailua District Park pool.
Aulea Swim Club is host for the USA Swimming-sanctioned event. Long course means a 50-meter-long pool, the Olympic length.
Championship finals start tonight at 6, tomorrow and Sunday at 4 p.m. and Monday at 2 p.m.
Trial heats will be held tomorrow, Sunday and Monday mornings. Swimmers are entered from all the major Hawaiian islands a total of 2,465 individual entries and 331 relays.
Iolani Swim Club and Hawai'i Swimming Club are top challengers for the team championships.
VOLLEYBALL
Cuba stops USA: Cuba had three players in double figures as it beat the United States women, 25-13, 17-25, 25-17, 25-10, in pool play at the Montreux Volley Masters tournament yesterday in Switzerland.
Cuba, No. 2 in the world, is 1-1 in Pool B. The fifth-ranked U.S. is 0-2 and plays The Netherlands as pool play concludes tonight.
Stanford's Logan Tom and former University of Hawai'i All-American Heather Bown each scored nine points to lead Team USA.
