'God Bless America' signs removed

Three paper flags with the words "God Bless America" written below were removed from the cashier's windows of the state Department of Taxation after complaints by the Hawaii Citizens for the Separation of State and Church.

Mitch Kahle, the group leader, said the signs represented the government's endorsement of the religious prayer.

The signs, which were taped to the windows, were removed yesterday.
