The University of Hawai'i coed sailing team finished third behind national champion St. Mary's College and runnerup Harvard at the Intercollegiate Sailing Association/Gill North American Dinghy Championship yesterday at Ke'ehi Lagoon.

St. Mary's of Maryland finished with a meet low 203 points after 18 races each in A division (112) and B division (91). Harvard (113, 97) scored 210 points, and UH (80, 139) 219.

St. Mary's was in third behind Harvard and Hawai'i after 16 races, but its A division team spurred a strong finish in the last two races with first and second finishes.

St. Mary's Brent Jansen and Galen Largay were first in B division and Danny Pletsch, Jen Vandemoer and Dave Perkowski were second in A division.

Hawai'i's Bryan Lake and Jennifer Warnock finished first in the A division and Molly O'Bryan, Joey Pasquali, Sarah Hitchcock and Lindsey Peters were ninth in the B division.

Eighteen teams participated in the three-day meet, the last of three national championship meets at Ke'ehi Lagoon.

FOOTBALL

Damien changes coaches: Chris Bisho has resigned as head football coach at Damien High School, and has been replaced by two of his assistants, Rudy Alejo and Dean Nakagawa, Damien president Br. Greg O'Donnell said yesterday.

"About ten days ago Chris asked if he could continue to coach here and not be a part of the teaching faculty but we declined that offer," O'Donnell said. "Our strong desire is to have as many on-campus coaches as possible, though that is not always something we can achieve."

Bisho was 2-17 in two seasons at Damien. He could not be reached for comment yesterday.
