Two people were killed and two injured Friday night on Maui after a motorcycle and three cars crashed on Honoapi'ilani Highway near Lahaina.

The motorcycle operator, Robert Gompers, 34, and rider, Allison C. Courter, 21, were killed shortly before 8 p.m.

Gompers was from Ha'iku. Courter had moved to Hawai'i a week earlier from Sacramento, Calif., and was living in Lahaina.

Police said Gompers was riding his Honda 650L motorcycle toward Wailuku, eastbound on Honoapi'ilani Highway and about two miles west of the scenic outlook, when he apparently drifted across the center line.

The motorcycle collided with a Ford Ranger that was traveling west toward Lahaina. The motorcycle was then hit by a Dodge Neon that was also traveling west. After hitting the motorcycle, the Neon collided with a Honda Accord that was traveling east.

The 29-year-old driver of the Ford Ranger and the 22-year-old driver of the Honda Accord, both from Lahaina, were not injured, police said.

The 33-year-old driver of the Dodge Neon, a Kahului resident, and her 27-year-old passenger, from Wailuku, sustained minor injuries and were treated at Maui Memorial Medical Center.

A 6-year-old child in the Neon was not injured.
