Electrician finds human remains

State archaeological investigators today were sent to investigate the origins of apparently human remains unearthed on a work site at Waialua Hongwanji Mission.

A staffer at the mission said an electrician digging a trench about 8 a.m. today found the remains, and police were notified.

However the indications from the initial police report are that the remains are very old, said Susan Siu, head investigator at the Office of the Medical Examiner.

2 men robbed in parking lot

Police are looking for two men in their late 30s in connection with the robbery of two other men last night while they waited for friends at a Kailua parking lot.

The victims, both 18, told police they saw the men drive in the lot at 40 Aulike St. and, bearing baseball bats, demand money.

The robbers allegedly reached into a victim's pocket and took about $20, and also took a chain from one victim's neck, police said.

Moped rider reports hijack

A man who asked an acquaintance for a cigarette ended up losing his moped Saturday night in a case police are investigating as a robbery.

The victim told police he saw the acquaintance, a man in his 20s, near the intersection of Dillingham Boulevard and King Street at 10:30 p.m. When the victim asked for a cigarette, the acquaintance allegedly showed him what looked like the butt of a handgun under his shirt.

The man then allegedly sat on the victim's moped with him, and after driving through Kalihi to Salt Lake, allegedly threatened to kill the victim unless he gave up the vehicle.

Village Park loses power

A power outage in Village Park left 2,300 customers without electricity for about a half-hour today and snarled traffic in the Kunia area.

The outage, reported at 8:05 a.m., ended at 8:39 a.m. for all but about 100 customers, said Fred Kobashi-kawa, spokesman for Hawaiian Electric Co. Traffic problems stemming from signal malfunctions in the area also were reported, he added.
