Top Hawai'i girls basketball players will showcase talents tonight

Many of O'ahu's best will play in the third annual Girls High School All-Star Showcase today, tomorrow and Thursday at Kalaheo High School.

Four teams, 32 or more players altogether, will play a round-robin with two games each night, at 6 and 7:15. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for high school and intermediate school students. Children 10-under are free.

Profits help send the Hawai'i Select girls team to a tournament in Las Vegas.

Among the girls who will be playing, according to tournament director Chico Furtado, are Rachel Kane and Becky Hogue of Punahou; Trisha Nishimoto of Iolani; Brittney Aiwohi of Sacred Hearts; Amber Lee of McKinley; Bre Carson and Latoya Wily of Kalaheo; Patti Hardimon of Moanalua; Dalia Solia of Kaimuki; Heather Massey of Radford and Ashley Kualii of Waiakea.

Search for coaches: The Hawai'i Baptist Academy athletic department is looking for coaches in varsity cheerleading, junior varsity girls tennis and girls basketball.

Head and assistant coaching positions are available. Resumes should be faxed to Deren Oshiro at 595-0296 by June 21.

Referee training: The O'ahu Interscholastic Association's Football Official Training classes begin July 8. Classes are Mondays and Thursdays from 7-9 p.m. New officials will be taught the rules and mechanics of football from youth league to varsity. For information, call Matthew Sumstine at 927-8665.
