Waikiki thieves still at large

Police are seeking two men in their early 20s in connection with a robbery and assault reported early yesterday in Waikiki.

The male victims, 20 and 21, were walking to their cars parked on Hobron Lane at 2 a.m. when a black Datsun pickup truck pulled up, police said.

The driver allegedly said he would shoot and took money from the younger man. He then allegedly drove up to the other victim, left the truck and hit him in the face several times.

Patrol officers pursued the truck but found it abandoned in the west Honolulu district, police said.

The driver is described as 5 feet 8 inches tall, 140 pounds, wearing a yellow T-shirt and dark shorts. The passenger is described as 5 feet 7 inches tall, 140 pounds with a crew cut and wearing a white undershirt and shorts.

After a clerk refused his demand for jewelry at 9 p.m., the man allegedly tried to break through a glass case using a screwdriver.

He fled on foot after a security guard spotted him, police said.
