Hawai'i briefs

Sexual-assault hearing today

A 68-year-old bank executive charged with sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl is scheduled to appear at a preliminary hearing today.

Alfred Gross was charged Sunday with two counts of first-degree sex assault and multiple counts of third-degree sex assault, a day after his arrest, police said. He was arraigned Monday and released from police custody after posting $25,000 bail.

Gross' wife brought the girl to their downtown Honolulu condominium on the "pretense" of doing housework in exchange for pay, police said. The girl told police that while she was there, an "older man" sexually assaulted her.
