Chamber names Tollefson permanent CEO

The board of the Chamber of Commerce of Hawaii voted yesterday to have James Tollefson be the organization's president and chief executive officer on a permanent basis.

Tollefson had been acting president and CEO since Sept. 1, following the resignation of Stanley Hong.

"The board and I are confident that Jim is setting a positive and effective course in managing the chamber since last year," said board chairman Lily Yao.

Tollefson said he was grateful for the permanent appointment.

"It has been a challenging period for everyone and every institution since September 11th," he said. "I believe the best use of chamber resources is to provide every assistance we can to keep Hawai'i businesses in business."

Tollefson served on the board for seven years, beginning in 1994, and was board chairman in 1999.
