THE ROCK
The Rock to star in movie about King Kamehameha

 • Homecoming for the Rock
 • World Wresting Entertainment returns to Hawai'i

The Rock will come back to Hawai'i. But the next time, he might be King Kamehameha, another movie character or The Rock himself.

"I'm proud to announce — I just got the call from my agent today — Sony Pictures has purchased the rights and will be in development for myself to play King Kamehameha in a movie based on his life," The Rock said yesterday at a gathering at the Blaisdell Galleria.

The group of about 70 press and Rock friends applauded when he made the announcement.

It is believed to be the first film exclusively on Hawai'i's king who united the islands and ruled from 1795 to 1819. The Rock said the film would be shot in Hawai'i, as will another of his upcoming action/comedy productions, "Helldorado," shot by Universal.

Tom Moffatt, promoter of tomorrow's sold-out World Wrestling Entertainment event, also announced yesterday that the WWE will be back to Hawai'i at least once a year with a show scheduled for next January already in the works.

"I call this kind a no brainer," Moffatt said. "You put the sign up and it goes."
