Lee has three-shot lead at Rainbow

Regan Lee shot his second consecutive 4-under-par 68 yesterday to take a three-stroke lead into today's final round of the 2002 Mililani Rainbow Open at Mililani Golf Club.

Phillip Chun shot a 69 and is in second place. Kevin Hayashi (71) and Kevin Carll (74), the first-round leader, are another shot back with Chad Saladin (68) alone at 141.

Recent Iolani School graduate Matthew Ma is the top amateur at 74—142. Also at 2-over 142 are Ivan Cunningham (72) and Andrew Feldmann (68).

Alan Adachi shot a 71 to lead A flight by four strokes with 147. Robert Luat shot an 81 to lead B flight by two strokes.

Today's final round starts at 7 a.m.


MEETINGS

• Quarterback Club: Jim Steeg, senior vice president of the National Football League in charge of special events, will be the featured speaker at tomorrow's meeting of the Honolulu Quarterback Club.

Steeg, who also oversees the Pro Bowl for the NFL, will be joined by Gwen Earll, executive director of Hawai'i State PONY baseball and Pal Eldredge, TV commentator for University of Hawai'i baseball.

Recent Iolani School graduate Lauran Dignam will be honored as the female sports person for May. Dignam won five gold medals in the 2002 Island Movers State Track and Field Championships last month.

The luncheon begins at 11:30 a.m. at the Pagoda Restaurant, followed by the program at noon.


FOOTBALL

• Linemen go to camp: Former NFL offensive lineman Leo Goeas will conduct a three-day "On-the-Line" camp for high school and pro offensive linemen beginning tomorrow at the St. Louis School field.

The instructional camp, which will feature drill and technique sessions for 55 Hawai'i high school juniors and seniors, runs from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.. NFL players will work out from 3:45 to 5 p.m. Viewing at all sessions is free to the public.

Marvel Smith of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Cincinnati Bengals' first-round draft choice Levi Jones, Detroit Lions' center Dominic Raiola, Steven Grace of the Arizona Cardinals, UH assistant coach Mike Cavanaugh and former Warrior Joe Onosai will be among the instructors.

Goeas, a former Kamehameha Schools and UH standout, played for the San Diego Chargers, Los Angeles Rams and Baltimore Ravens in a nine-year NFL career.


BEACH VOLLEYBALL

• Scott's team ninth: Sean Scott of Kailua and partner Todd Rogers placed ninth yesterday after dropping a match in the main draw's 16-team elimination bracket of a $150,000 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour event in Berlin.

Scott and Rogers shared $3,900 for their finish.


TENNIS

• Schofield lessons: Registration is open for the Hawai'i Pacific Tennis Foundation's Summer Junior Program. Classes are Monday to Friday and will be at Schofield Barracks.

The schedule has advanced and intermediate players going from 3-4:30 p.m., "Munchkin" classes 4-5 p.m. and pre-teen and teen beginners 5-6 p.m.
