Man aims rifle at police officerA 42-year-old Wahiawa Heights man was arrested last night after pointing a loaded rifle at a police officer investigating a complaint that the man had allegedly threatened family members with the same gun.
Police were called after an 8:30 p.m. incident at a Pu'u Place home in which the suspect allegedly pointed a pellet gun at his sister and fired a pellet into a nearby wall. He then allegedly threatened his sister and mother with machetes and a .22 caliber rifle that he later retrieved from his bedroom.
The suspect then returned to his room, where the officer who responded to the family's call approached him and said he was threatened with the rifle. Police said glass pipes and a substance resembling crystal methamphetamine were recovered from the man's room after his arrest.
Arson suspected at Hilo building
Fire officials are investigating whether a small fire last night at a Hilo apartment building that forced the evacuation of tenants was deliberately set.
Police patrol officers arrived first at 332 Keawe St., an apartment building that also houses Rosie's Diner. Officers used portable extinguishers to put out the fire, confined to a wall and door of the building, and evacuated tenants before the first fire engine company arrived at 10:56 p.m.
Firefighters used a booster line to extinguish smoldering embers and scanned for hot spots, officials said. Damage was estimated at $2,000.
Suspects sought in Ala Wai shooting
Police are seeking two Caucasian men in connection with a case last night in which one man was assaulted and another was shot in the leg.
The shooting victim told police he was returning from the mens room at Ala Wai Playground, 500 University Ave., at 11:15 p.m. when he saw one of his friends in an argument with a stranger who allegedly struck the friend with a stick.
A chase on a nearby bike path began, and a second man allegedly fired a shot, striking the victim in his left thigh.
The gunman was described as 5 feet 8 inches tall, 180 pounds, with a medium build and short dark hair. The other attacker was described as 5 feet 6 inches tall, 140 pounds with a slim build and wearing a maroon shirt and blue jeans.
Police probe Mo'ili'ili 'carjacking'
Four or five men are being sought in what police suspect is a drug-related "carjacking" kidnapping and robbery case that ended up in a Moiliili parking lot last night.
The episode began at about 10 p.m. when the victim, a 20-year-old man, was driving in Kaimuki when an acquaintance allegedly waved him over and got in.
The suspect then allegedly directed him to an apartment on at Laau Street. The victim told police he was assaulted by four or five men, one of whom demanded money. The victim then said he told them to take him to the parking lot adjacent to Longs Drug Store at 2334 S. King St. where he said he could contact a relative with money.
At the parking lot, he said he spotted a friend with a cell phone and phoned police. One of the suspects allegedly fired a shot into the air and rode off in the victims car with the rest of the group.
Car found torched after murder attempt
Police are investigating an attempted murder case in Kane'ohe in which the getaway car was later found torched on the Pearl City High School campus.
The case began at about noon Saturday when a male victim was found unconscious following a break-in at 46-491 Kamehameha Highway.
Detectives investigating the case later learned that the car allegedly used in the crime was found set on fire on the Pearl City campus at 3:45 p.m.
Police declined to release details about the victims condition.
Shooting reported at care home party
Police are investigating reports from a 21-year-old 'Ewa Beach man that he was shot by an unknown suspect during a celebration at a newly built Fort Weaver Road care home.
The shooting was reported at about 12:20 a.m. Saturday, several hours into a party at the care home. The victim was shot in the left leg, but police released no further details.
Driver aims car at patrol officer
An attempted murder case was opened after a 19-year-old man leaving the scene of a Nanakuli domestic assault on Saturday.
The suspects 19-year-old girlfriend told police who arrived at 87-182 Helelua St. at 12:20 a.m. that she had been assaulted.
The suspect, leaving the residence in his car, reversed the car into a parking lot, police said. When the officer ordered him out of the car, the suspect allegedly drove directly at the officer, who said he had to jump behind his own car to escape injury.
