At the Web site www.PlusSize.com, the model on the screen has a striking resemblance to ... you. The shopping portal, featuring clothes for women size 12 and up, includes a sampling of Lands' End apparel and swimwear that can be tested by virtual models that have adjustable heights, weights, body types, skin tones, hair styles and eye colors.
A similar virtual feature is available for missy sizes on the Lands' End Web site.
Other manufacturers who offer online fittings at PlusSize.com include Elisabeth by Liz Claiborne, Ulla Popken, Just My Size, Jockey and SizeAppeal.
New editor, new style
Rolling Stone, the music magazine, is getting a new managing editor Ed Needham, now editor in chief of FHM, a so-called "laddie" magazine that features women in bikinis on its covers.
Needham, 37, said the new job is "a massive kind of adrenaline buzz. It's one of the great jobs in magazine journalism." He said he would increase fashion coverage, have "shorter and snappier" articles and add attention-grabbing design elements to draw readers.
The announcement ends weeks of speculation since Jann Wenner, Rolling Stone founder and owner, said in April he would replace Robert Love, who served five years as managing editor. Wenner said he plans to give the magazine a more youthful edge in an effort to overcome lagging newsstand sales.
Added sunproofing
Dye-maker Rit is now selling a product that adds not color but sun protection to your clothing.
Rit Sun Guard, a laundry additive, penetrates fibers to keep 96 percent of ultraviolet rays from passing through clothing and reaching the skin. The maker says it's particularly useful for light-colored, lightweight fabrics that don't provide as much sun protection as darker, heavier materials.
Sun Guard is available at retailers, and also can be ordered online at www.dermadoctor.com and www.seriouslyshady.com.
It costs $2 to $3 a box, which contains enough for one wash load. A treatment survives 20 washings.
