Dirt bike, car collide in Waialua

By Walter Wright
Advertiser Staff Writer

A 22-year-old Waialua man was critically injured when the dirt bike he was riding collided with a sedan on Waialua Beach Road at Hale'iwa Road late Saturday.

The off-road motorcycle had no lights, police said. It was not immediately known whether the motorcyclist was wearing a helmet. An investigation was under way to see if alcohol use by the motorcyclist was a factor.

The motorcyclist was westbound on Waialua Beach Road when he collided with an eastbound white 1970 four-door Chevrolet Nova driven by a 26-year-old man, also from the Waialua area, investigators said.

The motorcyclist was flown by medical evacuation helicopter to The Queen's Medical Center, where he remained in critical condition yesterday.

The driver of the Chevrolet was wearing a seat belt, and alcohol was not a factor in his driving, investigators said.
