"State V." premiere, 9 p.m. (ABC), or "Power, Privilege and Justice" (Court TV), at 7 and 10 p.m. This summer, the big networks have jumped into something that was already a Court TV habit taping real-life cases and showing the most dramatic parts. On ABC the five-week "State V." opens tonight. In "State V.," Cynthia McFadden looks at murder cases in Arizona. In tonight's opener, a man says he killed his friend in self-defense.

"In Search of Ancient Ireland" 10 p.m., PBS. Here is the mid-section of a three-week series that tosses aside Irish myths and looks for the island's real history. Tonight's hour views the arrival of Christianity.
