Tonight's Must-See
"Lilo & Stitch: Aloha From Hollywood," 8 p.m., ABC. Synergy hits overload. From the stage of the Disney-owned El Capitan Theatre, the Disney-owned ABC has an hourlong tribute to the animated Disney movie "Lilo & Stitch," set in a fanciful Kaua'i. Kelly Ripa, from the Disney-owned "Live With Regis & Kelly," plays host. The performers are Wynonna and Jessica Simpson (who may not currently be owned by Disney).
"Odyssey 5," 7 p.m., Showtime. At first, this seems like your standard outer-space film that's slightly on the drab side. We're in a space station where the crew (led by Peter Weller) works and quibbles. People seem as casual as their clothes, which are suitable for any golf outing. Then Earth explodes. And that's just the beginning. We won't give away the steps that follow. They're big and fanciful, but somehow, they work. By the second half of this pilot film, five people are on a secret mission to go back in time to literally save the world. There are huge plot twists done with quiet intelligence. "Odyssey 5" will settle into a Friday timeslot.
Of Note
"Working Girl" (1988), 2 and 4:15 p.m., AMC. Director Mike Nichols turned a quiet comedy into a solid, intelligent movie. Melanie Griffith stars as someone trying to go beyond her blue-collar background to become a business success. The deep supporting cast includes Harrison Ford, Sigourney Weaver, Alec Baldwin and even David Duchovny.
"Executive Decision" (1996), 8 p.m., TNT. The basic notion here Kurt Russell slipping onto a jetliner mid-air to overthrow skyjackers is preposterous. Still, it's played straight and solid. In support are such strong people as Halle Berry, John Leguizamo and B.D. Wong. David Suchet, who stars in the "Poirot" mysteries, is excellent as the master villain.
