Price boost for tickets approved

Advertiser Staff

The University of Hawai'i's Board of Regents yesterday approved measures that will increase ticket prices for football and women's volleyball as early as this fall.

A surcharge not to exceed $50 per football season-ticket package was approved for seats in "premium sections" at Aloha Stadium. The surcharge will affect a little more than 20,000 seats at the 50,000-seat stadium. Some schools, like Brigham Young, have surcharges of at least $1,000.

Also approved was the transfer of not more than 23,594 seats to be sold through 'Ahahui Koa Anuenue, the athletic department's primary fund-raising branch.

The surcharge for women's volleyball has yet to be determined.

UH officials earlier hoped the increase would help generate about $200,000 for the upcoming school year.
