Wood show taking entries until July 1

Advertiser Staff

In preparation for the Hawai'i Forest Industry Association's 10th annual wood show, entries for the juried exhibition will be accepted through July 1.

The show, "Na La'au O Hawai'i," will be Sept. 14-22 at the Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center. The event showcases some of the state's finest wood work and requires entrants to use Hawai'i-grown woods in their entries.

Woodworkers are invited to enter furniture, turned vessels, musical instruments, and sculpture made of an array of island woods such as koa, mango, kamani, milo and Norfolk Island pine, as well as lesser know varieties such as macadamia, robusta eucalyptus, kiawe, silky oak and tropical ash.

Many of the items will be for sale. For entry information and deadlines, woodworkers can download from the Web site (www.hawaii-forest.org) or phone show coordinator Charijean Watanabe at 841-9495.

The association is a non-profit organization with more than 270 members interested in maintaining healthy, sustainable forests. They hold the show each year as an opportunity for the public to meet and talk with woodworkers, watch demonstrations and view more than 100 one-of-a-kind entries.

The event is free and open to the public.
