Hawaiian Humane Society educator Krista Sumida will explain the difference between pets and wild animals as part of the summer fun reading program "Making Tracks" at Waipahu Library, 10.30 a.m. to noon tomorrow, and at Kailua Library, 2.30 p.m. to 4 p.m. July 3.

What could be more fun than adding a new cat or kitten to your home, except adding two?

To double your fun, the Hawaiian Humane Society encourages you to adopt two cats or kittens during June.

And since June is Love-a-Cat month, the Humane Society is celebrating by waiving the second adoption fee and giving adopters free gifts for their new kitties, too.

A two-cat household means more play time for your pets. It means twice the welcoming committee when you come home. Twice as many faces turned up to receive a special treat. Two cats to learn from each other and two distinct feline personalities to enjoy.

Another benefit of adopting two cats at a time from the Humane Society is that you can adopt siblings, especially if they're kittens, or adults who already are used to each other because they've been together in their previous home.

Adult cat and kitten combinations are wonderful too. You get the youthful exuberance of a kitten, and the kitten benefits from an adult cat helping it to learn manners and use a litter box.

If you already have a companion animal at home, you might consider adding a cat, a kitten or a pair. The Humane Society has a flier providing tips on introducing your new cat to your other pets. A dog and a kitten; a bird and a cat; kittens and guinea pigs — more than one pet is tons of fun!

Why adopt from the Hawaiian Humane Society? You get $200-plus worth of services for a low $50 adoption fee, which includes: microchip ID, spay/neuter surgery, carrier, worming, initial vaccinations, veterinary examination, post-adoption care.

What's more, during June you also get two cat adoptions for one fee, a free month of flea preventative and a free three-pound bag of Nutro food.

This Love-a-Cat month offer will enrich the lives of families and help more cats find homes. There are lots of kittens and adult cats during this time of year. Visit the Society's Cat House and prepare to fall in love — two times!
