• How the public viewed last year's public worker strikes — and what role labor will play in this year's elections — will be among issues addressed in a panel discussion sponsored by the Industrial Relations Research Association. • Sen. Dan Inouye and Rep. Neil Abercrombie will join representatives of NASA, the Army Research Laboratory and others in a two-day state-sponsored discussion on obtaining federal money for local technology research and development. "FEDERAL FUNDING FOR TECHNOLOGY RESEARCH, DEVELOPMENT AND COMMERCIALIZATION" will be held July 1-2 at the Sheraton Waikiki Hotel, and will focus on military and non-Department of Defense sources of financing to begin new, or expand existing, technology-based businesses. The conference, co-sponsored by the University of Hawai'i and the Hawai'i Technology Trade Association, among others, is intended for business owners, researchers, technology professionals, government and military personnel, service providers and economic development officials.
