THE LEFT LANE
Brothers Caz on MTV

The Brothers Cazimero will be heard on a new reality-based MTV show, "Sorority Life," premiering at 7:30 p.m. today on Oceanic digital 567, Oceanic analog 71, Craig TV 48.

The tune, "Na 'Ale O Ni'ihau," will be heard 17 minutes into the hourlong series, which is about life within the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Pi sorority residence at the University of California-Davis. How Hawaiian music factors in the episode, however, is not known.

Should you miss the premiere, a rebroadcast will be at 11:30 a.m. June 30.

The pop on the show means global exposure for Robert and Roland Cazimero, who have recorded more than 30 CDs on the Mountain Apple Records label.

Chicks, Sony reunite

The Dixie Chicks, who accused Sony Music of cheating them out of millions of dollars in royalties, have reconciled with the company and will release their next record under a new label jointly created by the group and Sony. The disc, "Home," will be released Aug. 27 on Open Wide Records, Sony officials said.

Financial details of the settlement were not released, but it ends a yearlong dispute that involved allegations of thievery, breach of contract and multimillion-dollar lawsuits. Recently, the Dixie Chicks joined the Recording Artists Coalition, which is demanding better relationships with record labels.

Celebrating artist

News that popular O'ahu watercolorist Peggy Chun had been diagnosed with Lou Gehrig's disease (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) spread through the Honolulu arts community last spring. Chun, who lost her sister to the disease, had known it might strike her, but others were stunned. The disease causes nerve degeneration and could eventually rob Chun of the ability to create her characteristically optimistic works.

Her friends are mounting a show celebrating Chun's work, July 9-20 at the Pegge Hopper Gallery, 1164 Nu'uanu Ave., with two receptions, 6-8 p.m. July 11 and 12, and special prices on works during the show. Information: 524-1160.
